Reports from India are claiming that Virat Kohli is set for a spell with the London club ahead of the Test series in England
The Times of India are reporting that Virat Kohli will miss his country's June Test match against Afghanistan in order to join Surrey.
India face England in five Tests this summer and Kohli is likely to see a spell in the County Championship as invaluable experience heading into the series.
The India captain's poor run against England in 2014 (134 runs at 13.40) has been well documented and the highly-talented skipper will be determined to right the wrongs of the past.
Mitchell Marsh is Surrey's overseas player but Australia commitments (five ODIs and one T20 against England in June) would open up a place in the squad.
Marsh's absence could potentially see Kohli feature in three Championship matches; Hampshire at the Ageas, Somerset at Guildford and a trip to Scarborough to face Yorkshire.
Surrey's director, Alec Stewart, has been quoted in The Telegraph as saying the club had previously enquired about Kohli's availability.
"I did enquire a while back about Kohli when it appeared to be a possible option for him to play county cricket but was told India were playing Ireland in T20s and an inaugural Test against Afghanistan in June before the England tour," said Stewart.
"If he does now become available we would look at it again to see if it could potentially work around our current overseas arrangements."
Virat Kohli 's decision to play county cricket before the England series shows his drive and commitment to achieve excellence. I am sure not only him,but Team India will do exceedingly well in the England series. Best wishes!— VVS Laxman (@VVSLaxman281) March 24, 2018
