Alfonso Thomas is the new West Indies bowling coach

West Indies have announced a restructuring of their coaching team, with Alfonso Thomas named bowling coach.

Thomas, who earned one South Africa T20 international cap during a playing career which included a long association with Somerset, has held various coaching positions at counties and schools in England recently but he will now look after the senior Windies men as they prepare for the World T20 in 2020 and the World Cup next year - provided they emerge through qualifying unscathed.

Other changes by the Cricket West Indies board include the appointment of former legspinner Rawl Lewis as team manager.

Lewis was operations manager for the nation during their World T20 triumph in India in 2016.

Physio David Kershaw and strength and conditioning coach Corey Bocking have also been added to head coach Stuart Law's backroom staff.

Joel Garner is to become a Windies ambassador

Director of cricket Jimmy Adams said: “I’m delighted that we’re promoting from within the CWI coaching and management set up.

“We are focused on improving team performance, as well as broadening and deepening the coaching expertise in the region.

"We know we’ve got vital games and tournaments this year and we’re confident that these appointments will strengthen the Windies squads for this year and our future plans.”

Meanwhile, West Indies bowling legend Joel Garner has taken up an ambassadorial role.

CWI chief executive Johnny Grave said: "Joel Garner has agreed to become an ambassador, supporting the fundraising IT20 match at Lord's at the end of May and helping us launch the Windies Foundation planned for later this year."
