Tributes have been paid to the former Scotland international Con de Lange, who has died at the age of 38.

De Lange passed away on Thursday night, little more than a year after being diagnosed with a brain tumour.

The South Africa-born allrounder played 13 one-day internationals and eight T20Is for Scotland after making his debut in 2015.

His condition was first identified in the early months of 2018 but the news was not made public until October. De Lange had undergone an operation, chemotherapy and radiation treatment in an attempt to fight the illness.

He is survived by his wife Claire and their two children.

A statement from Cape Cobras, for whom De Lange played in South Africa, read: "We send our condolences to the family of former Cape Cobras cricketer Con de Lange who sadly passed away this morning."

De Lange also represented Northamptonshire, Boland, Eagles, Free State and Western Province over the course of his career.

He claimed 183 first-class wickets, 149 in List A cricket and 33 in T20s, as well as making more than 4,500 career runs across cricket's three formats.

Cricketers from around the world sent words of support to De Lange's family and friends via social media in the immediate hours after his death was announced.

Allan Donald called De Lange a "warrior", writing: "Gutted to here that Con De Lange has passed away this morning. What a warrior he was and taken so young. My sincere condolences to the family and there two children."

His former Northamptonshire teammate David Willey posted: "One of the best men I know! Lived with me, put up with too much, and taught me even more! Blessed to have had him in my life and thoughts are with his beautiful family at such a sad time! The worlds not fair. Con you’re a legend!"

Rory Kleinveldt, the former South Africa international, wrote on Twitter: "RIP Con De Lange !!! Someone i woulda taken 2 war with me any day of the week! Such a good soldier lost way 2 soon!! Condolences 2 Claire n the kids!"

Ireland international Boyd Ranking added: "Really sad to hear of the passing of Con de Lange overnight. Condolences to his family.
